WHY DO WE DO IT!

WHY DO WE DO IT!

Studies have shown that on a single night in 2019, 35,038 unaccompanied youth were counted as homeless. Of those, 89 percent were between the ages of 18 to 24. 50 percent of homeless youth are unsheltered- sleeping outside, in a car, or a place not meant for human habitation. According to the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness 2018, one of the most effective ways to support individuals as they move out of homelessness and into permanent housing is increasing access to meaningful and sustainable career training and employment pathways.

UITC Career Academy

As a pathway from vulnerability to self-sufficiency, UITC plans to develop a career academy that aims to provide young adults with workforce preparation, job training and job placement.
The career academy will be a six month workforce program, consisting of three phases: Preparatory Phase, Job Training and Education, and Job Placement. The Preparatory Phase will provide career coaching and mentorship such as interview skills, resume building, and career assessment. The Job Training and Education Phase will match students with a certified training program that will provide training and certification in a real estate specific professions such as real estate assistants, property manager, HVAC technician, plumbing, etc. The Job Placement Phase will place individuals who complete certified training with an employer.
